I’ve had a tab for this 2014 Ars Technica article open for ages, let me collect the series here:

  1. How to run your own e-mail server with your own domain, part 1
  2. Taking e-mail back, part 2: Arming your server with Postfix and Dovecot
  3. Taking e-mail back, part 3: Fortifying your box against spammers
  4. Taking e-mail back, part 4: The finale, with webmail & everything after

I don’t know if (a) these recommendations are all still good, 5+ years on, or, more importantly, if (b) self-hosting email is even remotely worth it. But, as someone who semi-regularly gets bitten by the “host all the things” bug, I figured it’s worth starting a collection on the topic.
